Deliberate Choices

In his seminal work, Mere Christianity, author C. S. Lewis discusses the idea that each decision we make changes us. It turns us closer to or farther away from Good. I find that idea intriguing. If that is true, than I am not the same person today as I was yesterday. I am either closer toward God or further away.

Lewis goes on to claim that when we are closer toward Goodness, we know it, but when we are further away, we do not know it. He likens it to being asleep. When we are asleep,

What does the customer want?

From talking with people, I can tell you what they don’t want.

They don’t want to be cheated, tricked, overcharged, or given unnecessary treatment.  From what I hear, that sort of thing is still going on!  It’s pretty unbelievable to me, but that’s what I hear.

They want to know they can trust their dental team.  Makes sense.  Sounds reasonable.  But how do we assure them that they can trust us?  Is it the kind of thing that develops over time like any strong relationship?  Maybe so.  That’s how we approach it: one patient at a time.  Trust builds through one conversation at a time.

Why Do We Buy?

Why do we buy?  There are so many reasons, if we want to be thorough, but primarily, I think we buy things to solve a problem.  The problem may be that we need food, that we need clothing, that we need transportation, that we need medical care.  It may, of course, be that we need a gift for someone or that we need a pick-me-up.  Perhaps we need to maintain the items we’ve already bought or that we already own, such as an oil change for the car or a haircut.  No matter the reason, we all buy things.  We also usually have a choice about where we buy.  That choice is the crux of it all for a business owner.

Upcoming Move

I want to tell you why I’m so excited about our upcoming move.  At Advanced Dental we are all about giving our very best to each and every patient – one patient at a time.  For years I’ve been dissatisfied because we have outgrown our current location.  Because of that I feel like we’ve fallen short on delivering our very best to each patient.  Space is limited, resources were unavailable, the waiting room cold in the winter.

In our new location, we will have everything we need in abundance to deliver on our mission: our best to each patient, one at a time.  We will be expanding to 6 dental chairs with monitors in every operatory for patients to see images of their teeth, both from the digital x-rays and from the intraoral camera.  There will be a dedicated sterilization area that, while visible to the patients, will be protected from traffic. We will have a private operatory for patients requiring extra privacy; sedation and implant patients, for example. The inside entrance will allow people to wait for loved ones in a comfortable setting with a coffee bar to treat themselves.
